It was a hot Sunday and we just finished practice. Anyone who had ever train at our dojo would know that you get tired easily due to its sauna factor. As we were having our after practice get together session, a question popped up on whats everyone doing next Tuesday, 7th December, since it's a holiday. I remembered my dojo mate Hafiz mentioned about going up on Gunung Serapi to build our stamina and enjoy nature.

And so, after a few phone calls and logistics arrangement , 7 of us arrived at Kubah on the 7th November 2010, a beautiful Tuesday morning and started our trek up to the top of Gunung Serapi. The view was spectacular and cool breeze greets you as you walk up along the trail.

Ring-ring..

That was my handphone ringing on the car dashboard for the third time. Picked up the call while navigating the last corner to enter Kampung Gersik. Btw, yes, it is illegal in Malaysia talking on the phone while driving without the use of a handsfree device. Anyhoooo...It was Sensei Louie asking where the bloody *toot* am I and why the *toot* I took so long to get there from my place. I was late (my bad) for Sensei Afzan wedding ceremony which I found out a few minutes later a few of my dojo colleagues were in the same "guilty as charged being late" position as I am. Unity in numbers they say hahaha..

It was a happy occasion for our Shidoin Sensei Sula household as their daughter, Sensei Afzan, had her wedding ceremony at their home in Kampung Gersik on the 5th of December 2010.

We wish Sensei Afzan and her husband a happy marriage and may they have a long and loving married life  full of good fortune together.

Here are some snapshots of the happy couple. (photos courtesy of Shah Abg Halil)

On the 4th of November saw 4 people successfully upgraded their dan level. We would like to thank our Shihan Jun Yamada who took the time and effort in coming to Kuching to conduct and grade the exam.

Congratulations again to:

M. Ghazali Sula 3rd Dan
M. Hamdani Pauzi 3rd Dan
M. Syukri Sula 2nd Dan
Abg Alwi Sepuan 1st Dan

It was a typical KL morning when we met up with our Shihan and Sensei Atsushi at the airport on our way to Hanoi to attend the 2nd Asean Fellowship Seminar. Our dojo sent 3 reps namely our Shidoin Sensei Sula, Sensei Zali and one of our dojo student.

Interesting fact: This year seminar coincides with 1000 years anniversary of Thang Long, the former name of Hanoi.

As we arrived in Hanoi and had a look around town, 4 things were clearly apparent.
   1. The weather was cool. Imagine walking around with an aircond set at 18-22 degrees.
   2. Scooter was the vehicle of choice and honking seems to be a mode of communication between vehicles on the streets. Seriously, they honk every 3 to 4 seconds.
   3. It is a communist country. Err.. nothing further.
   4. Lots of Cafes. They do love their coffee here.
Throughout the next 2 days, we had the pleasure of training, interacting and sharing our technique with aikido practitioners from South East Asia and other countries with the 12 Shihans as our instructor. Also, Shidoin Sensei Sula, Sensei Zali and a few members from Damansara dojo took part in an aikido demonstration representing Malaysia at the end of the seminar program.

Suffice to say the trip was an unforgettable learning experience altogether.

    Pictures you say?
